15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20 giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. (Ephesians 5:15-21; ESV)
Lord we see the evil of these days plainly. Yet, what is often not so plain to us is how to live in them. Give us wisdom oh Lord so that this little time you have allotted for each of us would be invested in your coming Kingdom. Guard us from foolish actions and lead us into understanding what your will for us is. Don’t let us think that escaping reality through things like a drunken stupor improves our life or your work in it. Fill our hearts, minds, and mouths with your word, and may we encourage others to press on. May we be overwhelmed with gratitude for what you have done for us in Jesus. May we be so enamored by this life you’ve called us to in him that we willingly submit to one another in love, service, and godliness. We pray in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
