Prayer Update – July 12, 2017

Becky and Kevin’s daughter Hayden is having surgery today for what is called craniosynostosis of the metopic suture. Her surgery began around 9:30am and the first update was at 12:45pm. Here is what Becky said:

The Neurosurgeon just came out finished with his portion. She had a small dura tear (the membrane that protects the brain) at the bridge of her forehead. The bone was a little extra thick and the dura had kind of grown into the bone. He didn’t seem too concerned, sutured and placed small graft. Plastics are rebuilding, putting back together and it should only be a couple more hours.

We praise the Lord for his protection thus far and the success he’s given through the surgeon. Continue to pray for little Hayden, for a successful surgery and recovery in these coming days and weeks.

Also, as we mentioned on Sunday, Mark’s mother is in hospice care in New York. The doctors have told the family she may live a few more days, or a week. She is beginning to be delusional, and is progressively getting worse. She is in much pain. Please pray for relief for her and for God’s comfort to be with the family. They are more mindful and more thankful than ever of our hope we have in the risen Lord Jesus Christ.

Further Updates to either of these situations will be in the discussion below. You are encouraged to comment as well to assure these families of your prayers for them.

Missionary Update – The Gudeman’s

Our church is in partnership in ministry with two different families. One of those families is the Gudeman’s who have just began to train for missionary aviation service. You can check out there most recent newsletter here.

Lord, Teach Us To Pray (part 2)

Make time this week to pray. Simply think about the people God has placed in your life, and pray for the needs you know they have. Think about the people who have been really getting on your nerves lately, and pray for them. Think about all the stuff you need to do and pray for it. Pray for your work, your rest, your family, and your church. If there’s something that you’d like us to pray for, let us know here. Pray the prayers of Scripture like the Psalms and the Model prayer of Jesus. You can listen to musical renditions of the Model Prayer of Jesus by Jon Foreman, Andrea Bocelli, or even Susan Boyle on Youtube if that helps you to pray. What is stopping you from praying? Maybe you should pray about that too.

Lord, Teach Us To Pray.

Find time to pray this week. Steal a few minutes from your schedule, from your sleep, or from your TV watching, and pray. Pray for your neighbors, co-workers, and the people of Shore Community Church. Pray the Model Prayer of Jesus that we are preaching through this summer. Pray the Psalms…Psalm 1, 23, 51, 91. There are 150 of them, pick one. Ask us to pray for you. Your circumstances may or may not change. But, the people around you need you to pray for them. Let your heart and mind influenced by God in prayer. Let your will and desires be shaped by God in prayer. Let your anxiety and troubles be affected by God in prayer.

Prayer Needs for February 9, 2015S

As you take time to pray this week, remember your brothers and sisters in Christ from SCC:

There are a couple of different people in our church that are looking for housing. Pray that God provides a place for them this month that suits their needs and is within their budget.

Pray for Tom’s mom and Kathy’s mom. Ask God to strengthen their health. Pray also for Tom and Kathy as they care for their mothers.

We have had new people visit our church every week for the past 5 weeks. Be in prayer for our Sunday services and for these new people who are seeking the Lord.

If you know of a need within our church that I’ve left out, feel free to add it in the comment section.

A New Testament Guide on what to pray

If you are trying to develop your prayer life, here are ways to pray for yourself, fellow believers, and everyone in your life straight from the New Testament. This list is not exhaustive, but will give you plenty of things to pray for the people in our lives. Remember these things in your prayers:

Matt 5:44 – pray for your enemies and persecutors

Matt 9:38 – pray for laborers for the harvest

Matthew 26:41 – pray that you may not enter into temptation. (The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.)

Ephesians 3:14-19 – prayer for spiritual strength

Ephesians 6:18-19 – boldness to proclaim the gospel

Philippians 1:9-11 – pray for love to abound more and more with knowledge and discernment so that we could approve what is excellent, be pure and blameless, and filled the fruit of righteousness.

Philippians 4:6 – Instead of anxiety, pray for everything asking God for anything with thanksgiving

Colossians 1:9-12 – pray that they may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. May they be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.

Colossians 4:  pray that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ

Colossians 4:12 pray that they may stand mature and fully assured in all the will of God

1 Thessalonians 3: 10 – thank God for them and pray all the time that you may supply what is lacking in their faith.

1 Thessalonians 3:12-13 – May the Lord make them/us increase and abound in love for one another and for all, so that he may establish our hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.

2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 – Pray for God to make them worthy of his calling and that they may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in us, and us in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Thessalonians 3:1 Pray that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored.

1 Timothy 2:1-4 – Make supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that they may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way and for people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Philemon 1:4-6 – Thank God for them in prayer and pray that the sharing of our faith may become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ.

James 5:15 – pray for the sick and for all to confess and repent of sin.

3 John 1 – pray for good physical health and spiritual health which means walking in the truth.

Prayer Needs for the week leading up to July 4th

As you pray, please remember these things:

  • Marlene’s Dad is having further difficulties with his health. Pray that their house sells quickly so they can transition down to this area and move into a care facility. This would allow them better medical attention, quality of life, and would help Marlene to better take care of her parents.
  • Pray for our church missionaries. They are facing a point of decision where there are many avenues of ministry they might pursue but need to identify the areas where they need to focus their energy and attention. Pray for their children as well.
  • We are at the mid-point of our Bible Camp today. The children are really enjoying it and learning a great deal. Pray for God’s work in their lives.
  • Pray for one another in the church. We are in a season where lots of folks are travelling. There are also a few among us such as Lou who are dealing with serious health concerns. Pray for those you are aware of, and pray that the treatment Lou is going through would eradicate his cancer. All of us need prayer to live our lives in a manner that reflects Jesus.
