1 Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. 2 It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep. (Psalm 127:1-2; ESV)
Lord, I confess that often my motivation in my work is often selfish. It’s difficult for me to see your greater purposes in the cycle of my life at times. So, I pray that you would work in me and through me in all that I do today. My protection and security is in you. You have ordained ways for me to protect and provide for myself, but ultimately, I trust in your care over me. You have watched over me night and day. You have guarded me from unseen and unknown dangers. You have spared me from danger I invited upon myself. You have given opportunities and strength for my provision. Forgive my anxiety about the future. It is in your hands. Help me to understand the ways in which I am to work diligently and also trust in your care and provision for me. May my work and rest be for your glory. May my work serve to build your Kingdom and restore your creation as well as provide for the needs of life. In all that I engage myself in today, may it be with a continual dependence upon your providence. I pray in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
