5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. 7 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. 8 It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones. (Proverbs 3:5-8; ESV)
Lord, today help me to trust in your ways and not my understanding alone. Your ways are preferable to mine because you see all things, you know all things, and your care and love for me is greater than I know. Your great plan is unfolding according to your providence for my good and your glory. Of course there will be things that I cannot understand, there will be times that are unclear, but you will make my paths straight. You will lead me in the way that may not be easy, but it will be good. At times my heart desires things you do not ordain as acceptable. Give me your wisdom to see the good in obeying you and resisting temptation. Give me your wisdom so I understand what a terrible thing disobeying your good and perfect will is. Instill in me an appropriate fear, reverence, awe, and respect for you and your commands. Turn my heart from evil and deliver me from the evil one. Your will and your ways are good, and good for me. In you is true and abundant life, true peace, true joy, true rest. May I seek all these things in you today O Lord. Amen.
