A Prayer for the Week – January 15, 2020

Matthew 6:7-15

7 “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 Pray then like this:“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.11 Give us this day our daily bread, 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Father in heaven, you are Holy. May your Kingdom come and your will be done on earth, in this community, in my church, in my family, and in my life, as it is in heaven. Give me the things I need for life today. Thank you for how you’ve always provided for me. Forgive me of my sins because of what Jesus has done. They are many but your mercy is greater. May I understand your mercy in such a way that I would willingly forgive others. When temptation comes lead me out of it. Strengthen me to resist it. Deliver me from evil, evil influences in my life, and the work of the evil one. May I walk in your forgiveness today, forgiving as I have been forgiven. It’s not easy to do, so I’ll need your help and strength. May my words, actions, and desires reflect your will and not my own today. Amen.
