A Prayer for the Week – January 29, 2020

Psalm 1

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.4 The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

Lord may your ways be my delight. There’s are times I am tempted to follow the ways of people who do not know you. Bless me so that I would not follow them, but so I would follow you. May I think of and meditate upon you and your blessings in my life. They are more than I can count so let me not fail to remember them. Help me to trust in your ways and see the fruit of your ways in my life. The ways of those who reject you will not last forever but your ways remain eternally. In Jesus I can stand before you rightly and I don’t fear condemnation even though I haven’t always followed your ways. I rest in Jesus’ righteousness and work, not my own. You have saved me from perishing with the wicked and have set me upon a new and righteous path. Bless me so that I will follow it faithfully today.
